UK: Woking: Our Flat
During the months that I will be working in the UK, my company is providing
this two-bedroom, two-bath, fully furnished flat for my family. While our flat
is only a block or two from the Woking railway station, it is situated in such a
way that we never hear any traffic. With the Town Centre just beyond the railway
station, everything we need is within a five to ten minute walk -- including my office.

Copper Beech House, the block of flats where we live. Our flat is on the "first" floor (one level up from the
ground floor), on the back side of the building, near the middle.

The rear of Copper Beech House. Our flat is near the very end of this shot.

Our kitchen, which features a fridge/freezer on the left, oven and range in the middle, and sink on the right.
Hidden behind some cabinet doors are a dishwasher, and a "washer/dryer" -- a combination clothes washer and dryer
in one compact unit. Our experience shows the typical American set up of separate washers and dryers works much better.

The dining area. Emory's booster seat is usually strapped to the right chair on the near side.
|
|
The living area. The TV and DVD player use, of course, the UK standard format (PAL). So we play Emory's collection of DVDs that we
brought from home on a laptop computer.
|
|
The second bedroom, where Emory sleeps. We purchased a secondhand crib -- or a "cot" as it is known over here -- from ebay.co.uk, and picked it up
during our first week in Woking.

Entrance to the master suite, with the closet (aka "fitted wardrobe") on the left.
|
|
The master bedroom. Even though this building is only a couple years old, like most buildings in the UK,
it is not air conditioned. So during the first weeks of our stay, we usually keep the windows propped open
to keep the flat from getting too hot during the day.

The master bathroom, with "shower room" with "power shower".

|
The "family" bathroom, across from Emory's room. Besides serving as our guest bath, this room is where Emory gets his baths.

Hallway, looking away from the living area. Door to family bath on the left, door
to master suite on the right.
